August 19, 2008 - 2008 WKA Manufacturer’s Cup
The 2008 Manufacturer’s Cup series recently wrapped up its season at Mark Dismore’s New Castle Motorsports Park in New Castle, Indiana.
The DB Motorsports crew was in attendance with the opportunity of a championship in their inaugural season. Caleb Loniewski’s weekend started
of very well with a 3rd place qualifying effort. The pre-final saw Loniewski’s luck turn for the worst as contact with another driver dropped
him to a 19th place finish. Undeterred by the misfortune, Loniewski pushed hard in the final to bring home a respectable 9th place finish.
Sunday’s event started off a bit rocky for the Michigan City, Indiana native with a 12th place qualifying effort. With the starting grid set
for the pre-final, Loniewski drove a masterful race to pass 8 karts in 6 laps around the 1 mile course. In the final, Loniewski again drove an
outstanding race and after battling neck and neck was able to bring home his 3rd national event victory of the season. DB Motorsports second driver,
team co-owner Brian McHattie showed immense gains all throughout the weekend. After qualifying both days in the 24th position, Saturday’s
incident prone pre-final saw McHattie get caught up in 2 separate incidents bending the steering shaft and tie-rods and relegating McHattie to a 36th
place starting spot for the final. At the drop of the green for Saturday’s final, Mchattie was once again caught up in an incident in turn 1.
Battling back through the field, McHattie finished the event in the 26th position. Sunday’s results would not be indicative of McHattie’s
true performance. While racing through field from a 21st starting place, McHattie would find himself in 17th position turning laps very close to the
leaders pace. An incident with another driver would push McHattie back in the field and he would finish up his day in the 23rd position. Overall it
was a great weekend and an outstanding season for the entire DB Motorsports crew bringing home the runner-up position in the season standings. DB
Motorsports would like to thank the Dedicated crew members Steve Hennessey and Ryan Miller for their hard work and dedication, Sean Cook of Cook
Racing Engines for all of his support and hard work as well as J3 Competition, KG USA, Burris Racing, DB Graphics and Design, Lonici Rental Group and
everyone involved in making this season a complete success.
