October 14, 2007 - Mazda RoboPong 200 Report

The DB Motorsports crew returned to Mark Dismore’s New Castle Motorsports Park for the facilities annual endurance event, the Mazda RoboPong 200 presented by Bridgestone. This unique karting event is fast becoming one of the premiere karting events in the U.S. Drivers from all disciplines of professional open wheel racing were competing alongside the best kart racers in the nation.

102 teams were vying for the 70 starting positions allotted to this years event. DB Motorsports would enter 2 teams in the event. Team 27 consisted of DB Motorsports driver Caleb Loniewski and Indy Pro Series race winner and former ICA National champion Robbie Pecorari. The other DB Motorsports entry, Team 93, consisted of DB Motorsports driver Brian McHattie and ICC veteran Bryan Dudiwka.

Pecorari was able to come up to speed extremely quick from his 4 year abscence to karting. Dudiwka was also able to adapt his driving style from the hard charging ICC style to the more laid back 100cc style of driving. After all the practice and setup changes made by the team, Team 27 would end qualifying in the 5th position while team 93 struggled a bit more and would make the event on time in the 45th position.

The teams would line up for the 3 pace laps behind the Mazda RX-8 pace car and take the green for 200 miles of hard racing. The entire field of 70 karts would make it through the first few laps without a major incident, quite a feat for the shear number of karts on the track. Team 27 showed outstanding pace throughout the event, but spark plug issues would force them to make an extra 2 pit stops, costing them any chance at the win. Team 93 would not fare quite as well as braking issues would put them a number of laps down at the end.

Overall, the DB Motorsports crew had a great time at the event and would manage a 7th place finish with team 27 and a 43rd place finish with team 93. The brightest moment of the event was the announcement of the fastest lap, the DB Motorsports crew would be pleaseantly surprised to hear their name called out as fast lap and recipients of the $250.00 bonus that went along with it.

Once again, DB motorsports would like to thank everyone involved with the team at this event. We would especially like to thank the Dudiwka and Loniewski families for their assistance in the pits all weekend. Also, Cook Racing Engines for providing the teams with the best Vortex Rok TT engines available.
